Kia India is experiencing a successful 2024, with sales up by 17 percent Y-o-Y. The brand started the year with the facelift of the Sonet, followed by the launch of its flagship SUV, the EV9, and the MPV, the Carnival, earlier this month. Looking ahead to 2025, the company is expected to introduce a full-size SUV to compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq. Here is everything we know about the Kia Sorento.

Talking to the media, Hardeep Brar, Head Of Sales and Marketing, confirmed that the company will continue to concentrate on SUVs for the future. The brand could plan to introduce new models in 2025, including a new mass-market EV and a full-size SUV. While the EV is expected to be based on the Seltos, we expect Kia to finally introduce the Sorento to rival the Toyota Fortuner in its segment.
Kia Sorento: New Fortuner Rival

The Toyota Fortuner is the most popular full-size SUV model on sale in the country. However, Kia could disrupt the segment with its new offering. The new SUV features an aggressive exterior styling with the new-age Kia design. Up front, the Tiger Nose grille continues to dominate along with a new vertically stacked LED headlamp unit. While at the rear, the new design LED taillamps and faux diffuser complete the look of the SUV. Overall, the SUV maintains its muscular design with strong lines and creases. Measuring 4.8-metres in length, the Kia Sorento offers a wheelbase of 2,815 mm which is more than the Toyota Fortuner. Moving inside, we expect the new Kia Sorento to borrow its cabin design from the recently launched Carnival MPV model. Key features of interest include dual 12.3-inch connected screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone air conditioning, a wireless charger, a premium BOSE sound system, and ventilated front seats, among others. The new model is also equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, TPMS, and ADAS Level 2, among other safety features.
Kia Sorento: What’s New?

Globally, the new Sorento is offered as a 7-seater and shares its platform with the Hyundai Santa Fe that was on sale earlier. The new model comes equipped with three engine options: 2 petrol & 1 diesel. The petrol includes a 2.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.6-litre turbo petrol hybrid, while the diesel includes a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. We could expect the 2.2-litre diesel and the 1.6-litre turbo petrol hybrid engines to make its way to India. The new SUV could also be offered with an AWD option from launch.
Currently, Kia has not shared its plans for the new Sorento in India. However, the new model was spotted at the company’s headquarters ahead of the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi confirming the company’s SUV strategy. Expected to be priced around Rs 35 lakh and Rs 45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the new SUV will squarely go up against the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Toyota Fortuner
